Valhalla Rising: The Viking Age

By Micah's Learning Resources

Valhalla Rising: The Viking Age is an interactive 3D map and timeline covering c. 750 to 1066 AD. Students follow the longships of Ragnar, Rollo and Leif Erikson from the fjords of Scandinavia to Constantinople and North America, one event at a time. One file, opened in a browser, with no install. What's inside - A 3D globe view with each event pinned in place - A 20 step timeline running from c. 750 AD to 1066 AD, with previous and next controls - A fact card for each stop with its date and a short explanation - Event stops on the raiders, traders and explorers, including Ragnar, Rollo and Leif Erikson - A globe the student can turn and zoom as the timeline moves How it works Students start at the first event and step forward through the timeline. Each step moves the globe to the place where the event happened and opens a card with the date and what took place. Because the map and the timeline move together, students see the geography and the chronology at the same time, and can trace how far the voyages reached in each direction. The final steps carry the story to the end of the Viking Age in 1066. Topics covered - The Viking Age, c. 750 to 1066 AD - Raiding, trade and exploration routes - Norse expansion west to North America and east to Constantinople - Reading a timeline alongside a map What you download - One file that opens in a web browser. No account and no installation. An internet connection is required to load the map. Grade Level: Grades 6 to 12
