Math Slither Comparing Decimals - Decimal Comparison Game

By Micah's Learning Resources

Math Slither: Decimal Dash is a snake-style game for comparing decimals. A rule sits at the top of the screen, such as "Greater than 0.5" or "Less than 0.25", and students steer their snake to eat only the decimals that fit it. What's inside - A snake game on a field of decimal bubbles in tenths and hundredths - Rules built from greater than or less than and six comparison values: 0.1, 0.25, 0.5, 0.75, 0.9 and 1.5 - Tricky distractors such as 0.05 or 0.09 that look large but are not, so students read place value instead of number length - Feedback after every bite: YES with the reason, or NOPE with the reason - A size counter: a right answer grows the snake and a wrong one shrinks it - Rival snakes that end the run on contact - A Teacher Info panel with the standard (CCSS 5.NBT.A.3.B) and the misconceptions the game targets How it works - Students read the rule, then steer toward the decimals that match it - Each bite shows whether the number fits the rule and why - Each new game draws a new rule, and the board keeps refilling with decimals Topics covered - Comparing decimals to tenths and hundredths - Place value in decimals - Greater than and less than with decimals What you download - One file that opens in a web browser. No account and no installation. Grade Level: Grades 4 to 6
