Eco Warriors 3-Level Editing Challenge
By Ready Steady Games

Our remote monitoring station in the Emerald Valley has been hit by a heavy tropical storm, and critical Eco Warrior transmissions need to be repaired before the recovery mission can continue. In this differentiated environmental editing challenge for Grades 4–6, students practice grammar, punctuation, capitalization, spelling, editing, and proofreading skills while restoring real-world conservation mission reports. Each passage reinforces sentence structure and revising skills through immersive environmental scenarios connected to forest recovery and ecosystem protection. This no-prep ELA activity includes three differentiated versions of every editing passage so the entire class can participate in the same mission while working at the appropriate level of challenge: Same environmental mission. Different clearance levels. Every student contributes to the recovery effort. The Three Clearance Levels Level 1: Junior Scout Clearance. Students repair corrupted field transmissions using correct capitalization, sentence boundaries, commas in a series, and apostrophes. Level 2: Field Technician Clearance. Students apply all Level 1 skills plus proper nouns, apostrophes for possession, commas after introductory phrases, and question marks. Level 3: Command Specialist Clearance. Students tackle relative clauses with bracketing commas, subordinating conjunctions, and colons to introduce lists.
